Teaching @ LSU

While working on my linguistics degree, I taught English as a Foreign Language (EFL) through the English Language and Orientation Program (ELOP) at LSU. I held classes in Composition, Conversation, Grammar, and Reading, ranging from beginner in fluency to advanced. My students ranged in age from 16-60, and they came from countries all over the world.

Growing up bilingual with an immigrant parent helped a bit in putting myself in the perspective of my students, as they attended this immersive program abroad. My lived experience was different from their own experiences, but we were able to bond over food. Almost every student wanted to tell me about the delicious foods from their country, and we used this to create compound sentences, read recipes, and write preparation instructions.

I worked with my fellow teachers to standardize a curriculum outline for each class term and fluency level. Below is our work for our Grammar classes. We noticed a marked improvement as students had more information to what each class would cover.
